Breckenridge Brewery Introducing Nitro Series Cans in 2016

Breckenridge Brewery Announces a New Line
of Nitrogen-Carbonated Canned Beer

Littleton, CO – December 21, 2015 - Breckenridge Brewery will introduce an all-new line of portable and versatile nitrogen-carbonated beer in the first quarter of 2016.  The 16-oz can presents the ability to experience silky, smooth nitrogen-charged beer outside of the pub, even taking that experience to the great outdoors. This can promotes “nitro on the go,” for although a glass displays the cascading effects of the nitrogen head, with Breckenridge’s can design the glass is optional.  The Nitro Series from Breckenridge Brewery can be enjoyed anywhere – in a glass or right from the can.

Breckenridge will launch its Nitro Series in 4-packs starting with Nitro Vanilla Porter (NVP) and Nitro Lucky U IPA, available year-round where Breckenridge beer is sold.  “Vanilla Porter and Lucky U were logical choices for rolling out this ground-breaking release for us,” shares Todd Usry, Brewery Director.  “We’ve built a fan base for both of these beers in recent years with nitrogen-infused draft releases.  It’s time to put this beer on the shelves.” Later in the year, the brewery will begin rolling out a seasonal program in the nitro can package. The first release will be the fall seasonal expected to roll out mid-August.

The Nitro Series 4-pack is an important new addition to the brewery’s portfolio. George O’Neill, Director of Sales, explains, “We are capitalizing on strengths with the release of Nitro Series, offering our consumers another way to enjoy our bestselling beer, Vanilla Porter and a new way to enjoy craft’s bestselling style, IPA. The portability that our nitro can offers really opens the number of occasions in which the beer can be consumed. Those who enjoy the nitro experience no longer have to remain tied to the bar stool or pint glass.”

“These beers are dangerously drinkable,” adds Usry.  “Nitro beers offer a different palate experience.  Nitro Vanilla Porter has mellow, delicate vanilla flavor with a rich, porter base.  Nitro Lucky U IPA has lots of interesting hop character without the hop bitterness – that bitterness has been replaced by a creamy mouthfeel.” The small, uniform bubbles produced by nitrogen also create a longer-lasting head. “There’s just something mesmerizing about watching a good nitrogen pour.  You can drink this beer with your eyes,” concludes Usry.

Breckenridge Brewery built a new home in Littleton, Colorado, and moved primary production there this summer.  Its new canning line will increase the brewery’s canning speed nearly 800%. This translates to larger volumes of its 12-oz can offerings, including its sampler pack, and the ability to hit the market with nitrogen-charged 16-oz cans.

Oskar Blues Becomes First US
Craft Brewery to use Nitro Cans

(Longmont, CO & Brevard, NC) — After years of experimenting with putting fresh draft beers on nitro, Oskar Blues Brewery decided to take the next step and insert the robustly complex OLD CHUB into a nitro’d CAN, thus generating an uber-silky smooth oral experience for drinkers of this rich Scotch Ale. OLD CHUB NITRO will be released in the Denver market for the upcoming Craft Brewers Conference on April 8-11. National distribution will be determined following the Craft Brewers Conference.

Oskar Blues Brewery expanded their nitro program in 2009 under the leadership of brewer Juice Drapeau. After developing a high quality and consistent draft option, focusing on OLD CHUB, we also have nitro’d Dale’s Pale Ale, Deviant IPA & G’Knight Imperial Red IPA, along with numerous small batch specialties. Quality control guy Michael Kohn has been instrumental in refining the entire process with Juice. Currently, more than 200 OLD CHUB NITRO draft handles are out there in the 34 states of Oskar Blues distribution.

The self-dubbed “CHUB TRUST” pushed the innovation of a quality nitro experience in a can with the help of The Ball Corporation. OLD CHUB NITRO utilizes an existing widget technology developed by Ball. The Nitro widget is attached to the bottom of the can and is charged with liquid nitrogen during the filling process. The widget releases the nitrogen when the can is opened, liberating the cascading creamy smooth nitro pour.

“OLD CHUB Scotch Ale is a great beer that many folks haven’t tried. The nitro style is the perfect mate for the brobdingnagian OLD CHUB SCOTCH ALE and the best way to get more CHUB in more places.” Says beer traffic control freak Jeremy Rudolf.

The nitro style allows beer lovers to go deeper into the smoky smooth mouth-feel and rich malty flavors of the Old Chub Scotch Ale. Both OLD CHUB Nitro & original OLD CHUB will remain in the market and are on tap at both Tasty Weasel Taprooms in Longmont and Brevard.

OLD CHUB NITRO will be available in 16-ounce 4-pack cans priced in line with Dale’s Pale Ale, Mama’s Little Yella Pils & Old Chub 12-ounce 6-packs.

About Oskar Blues Brewery
Founded as a brewpub by Dale Katechis in 1997, Oskar Blues Brewery launched the craft beer-in-a-can apocalypse in 2002 using a tabletop machine that sealed one can at a time. In 2008, the makers of the top-selling pale ale in ColoRADo, Dale’s Pale Ale, moved into a 35,000-square-foot facility in Longmont, ColoRADo. The brewery has since experienced explosive growth—packaging 59,000 barrels of beer in 2011 and 86,750 barrels in 2012. In December of 2012, Oskar Blues opened the doors to an additional brewery in Brevard, North Carolina. Together, the breweries packaged 119,000 barrels of beer in 2013, distributing its trailblazing craft brews to 34 U.S. states and Washington, D.C.
